Same Whole

I walk into the room
Everyone is working
Oblivious to the fact that
I can’t breathe
He won’t let you talk to me
He says I’m a distraction
Does he realize that our time is limited
You stay in the corner
I try to ignore the pain that I’m feeling
I do what I need to do
Moving in slow motion
For I know that my time is precious
And I want to stay near you
As long as possible
Then she walks in
It’s been a while
I’m starting to get used to the distance
But it still hurts
It still makes me remember
And each time is a new memory
We catch up
She sits and watches my motions
I can see you in her eyes
You are so different and yet the same
You’re staying away
We both know the reason
But that doesn’t make it any easier
Each time you try to come in
He makes you leave again
Being in here makes me happy and sad
Miserable and peaceful
Safe and terrified
Because I know the longer I stay
The harder it gets to leave
He tells me to go
And I’m reminded that
I no longer belong here
That this is no longer my life
But it stays to haunt me
I gather my things
I say goodbye to her
I don’t know the next time I’ll see her
It used to be a known fact
Wherever she went
I followed
Now, I know that each time might be the last
And I do my best to make it through
I don’t cry
I put on a smile
I act like a boss
But I’m dying inside
I wish it didn’t have to be like this
But you tell me that everything happens for a reason
And we have to stay strong
I trust you
I walk out and I don’t feel complete anymore
For wherever you go
You take a piece of me with you
We are two parts to the same whole
