Wishful Thinking
Sitting by my side on the couch
sharing memories with our friends.
You look over at me and smile
with those devious lips.
I can only stare in wonder at
how a girl like you ended up with
a flawed man like me.
The night is based upon our jokes
and security in ourselves.
Our friends can all but
hide their envy.
As the night wears down we leave,
happy and satiated with the warming
joy of company fresh on our minds.
Upon arriving home, you grab my shirt
and pull me close.
Our mouths meet and I notice the slight
taste of cherry permeating from your lips.
As we lay upon the bed passions rising,
you stare into my eyes and whisper
"you and no other"
And as I give my only innocence away to you
I silently agree.
"You and no other."
