the lacuna explorer
little daybreak children
who live in this terrible kind of city,
do you laugh and do you cry as you bleed out your story?
do you laugh and do you cry because yesterday’s heroes bleed under your feet?
your mother with her narrowed eyes
can look you down from miles away or close enough to see the pores of your skin
but all she can see is the dirt under your fingernails.
and in your heart
you shrunk down into a just-a-boy
(became the definition of lost-and-lonely)
who needed to discover the world in order
not to feel the emptiness of his own -
so he explored the lacunas and the jungle
and every nook and cranny in the marketplaces.
the sea caves became the veins in his heart
leading out to water holes in the desert
and swallowing deep into the Atlantic.
he grabbed hold of adventure
and made it his own -
you made it
your own.
