I Love Messes
I love messes
the way a pint-sized girl loves
to smear Colgate
all over her face
when brushing her teeth,
accidentally on purpose.
I love messes
the way a dog loves
to roll in the fescue
and stomp in the mud
and then run in the house
and jump on a couch,
your legs, the bed,
totally on purpose.
I love messes
the way a bad cook loves
to splatter olive oil
on the cabinet
and splash flour
across his belly
purposefully on accident.
I love messes,
little messes.
And as the big messes grow,
I love the little messes
more and more.
