Slipping Away
I understand why he does it;
stands there all alone.
Waiting in the rain
falling whispers from his home.
There's solace in the mist (missed),
an aching break of tenderness,
veiling all that's lost
and leaving the lonely world only this.
Every hungry breath of heavy air
fills my soul 'til there's nothing left,
except shadows of what was there
and from me, what was kept.
