Cutting, cutting sweet paper blank,
You never knew what’s inside
Tearing, tearing sweet paper blank
How could I not witness your delight!
"Ich liebe dich," wrote he,
"Ich liebe dich so sehr!"
Such words my dear beloved sent!
T’was beyond this heart’s content!
Folding, folding sweet paper blank
Oh, what could he really mean,
Dreaming, dreaming oh sweet, sweet paper blank
"Ich vermisse dich," wrote she,
"Ich vermisse dich so sehr!"
Such words my truest heart did send!
