The ice crystals fall
landing on your eyelashes
muffling all noise
you watch each one
they flutter gently to the ground
the smell of pine lingers
and the wind lashes angrily at your face
the harsh air burns your lungs
the silence is absolute
but you are not sleeping
with the rest of the world
you close your eyes and breathe
the world is sleeping
