The puzzle piece that never fits
Because its sides are round
Not square

The person always confused and lost
Pretending
They don’t care

The cat, so suave and confident,
Bold as brass,
Calm

The friend always there to lend a hand
Apply the healing
Balm

The bird outside the birdcage
Watching the world go
By

The empty shell of persona
Always afraid to
Cry

Part of a chain, a needed clasp,
But is it the weakest
Link?

A lemming knowing change must occur
To not go off the
Brink

The firework in the darkness
Exploding – there, then gone: a quick, brilliant,
Blast

The hurt and troubled soul
Trying to forget the
Past

The one who cannot stand it
To come in
Second place

The one who has yet to understand
That life is not
A race

As constant as the mountain,
Whose insides are always
Churning

The voice of a seashell
Calling out, with constant
Yearning

A comet pulled from orbit
Unsure of whether to go or stay,
At rest

The girl with perfectionism,
Unable to accept anything more than
The best

The one with standards so high
They’re almost impossible
To meet

The one who hates herself because
She feels she will become
obsolete

Certain she could do more,
Yet fearing to try
But sure if she just put in the work
She could learn to fly
