Like Nothing Before

A black figure drifting through the rain
Running in the street
She turns and you see her face
Pale white against black hair and soaking clothes
She wears an expression that teeters on the brink of sanity
You wonder what is wrong with her
She has just discovered what it is like to feel truly alive
She tilts her head to face the sky
And lets the drops stream down her face
Roll over her lips
She licks them to taste the feel of the pure energy they bring
Her feet are bare
And small against the ground of the dirtied neighborhood
She steps through the river of water in the gutter
And over the bottles flowing in it
She kneels down and bows her head
Her drenched hair dripping onto the wet pavement
She is quiet though her music plays in her ears
One word escapes from her lips over and over
“God"
That girl you see standing in the rain
That girl that wears black
And likes to be alone
That girl that constantly listens to music
That girl that writes poetry
That girl that you question
That girl is me
That girl is okay
She let go
