Lost in Paris
Across the bridge we walk
My hand in yours
Locks of love adorn the railings
Each with two names inscribed
Lovers’ mark upon this city.
We turn to walk along the river
That cuts through eternity
We wander down another street of stone,
Past cafes where watchers sit
Past secret fountains tucked away
For only some to find.
We pause at one,
The breath of an angel
Splashing in our ears.
But you do not hear her sound
You do not smell the cafes
You do not see the warmth, the romance
You cannot feel my hand,
And I cannot feel yours.
You are not here
You are in another world
One that does not see beauty.
You are at home
Waiting for me to return
But I have brought you in my heart
You have not seen this city,
But I have seen it for you.
