When I was a kid
I rolled in the mud
Ate like a pig
And played in the sun

When I was a kid
I stirred in the pasture
Mooed like a cow
And didn’t care if my pants tore

When I was a kid
I howled to the moon
Lapped water like a dog
And sang my own tunes

When I was a kid
I pecked in people’s business
Squealed like a chicken
And said, “Be back in a minute”

When I was a kid
I swam in the pond
Followed like a duckling
And cherished childhood before it was gone

When I was a kid
I flew through the field
Bucked like a horse
And played unconcealed

When I was a kid
I hopped through my life
Carefree as a rabbit
And luck alright
