Midnight Beach
There are waves,
beautiful, blue-green waves
crashing against the shore
in the light of a full moon
A fire crackles softly
on the shore behind me.
There are small whispers
just heard above the surf
There are two moons
One in water, one in sky
competing for who shines the brightest
I hear a loud swear behind me
breaking the peaceful quiet
followed by an angry mother’s tone
A toasted marshmallow
has fallen on the sand
and apparently
it was just right
and so is the night
