Water splashing from
Paddling quickly trying to get to shore.
The dark clouds rolling over our heads.
Lightning in the evening sky.
Thunder slowly rushes closer.
Paddling even faster,
We need to get off the water.

Lightning.

Rain tapping on our blue kayaks.
Thunder.

Arms screaming.
We pull the kayaks in the sand,
Leaving a trail.

Running up on the slippery wet grass,
Across the yard knocking on doors.
Lightning flashes bright.
We jump 5 feet high.
Thunder yells.

No one is home.

Waiting, looking, no lights on in any houses.
Rain slowing,
Clouds moving over the lake.
A small flash of lightning,
Thunder comes a few seconds after.
We’re too tired to go back across.
A boat appears moving closer to us,
They knew we were here.
Thunder rumbles in the distance.

We walk slowly,
Trying not to fall on our way to the kayaks.
Our hair and clothes dripping wet as
Water rolls down our faces.
We wait, out of breath, laughing.
The boat pulls up.
We look up as

The sun peeks out,
A rainbow in the sky.
We laugh even harder.
