I looked down
at your face...
peaceful and relaxed...

my heart bleeds,
I'm slowly falling apart...

I say your name...
NO REPLY
I scream for you
to open your eyes...
NO REPLY

I long for your rough voice
and that crooked smile
"Daddy I love you",I say
NO REPLY

They say you're in a better place,
and though I know what they say is true,
I really just wanna go to heaven, with you,
but I can't...

Now,
it's just me and God
to make it through
But i feel heartbroken
because I'll only get a NO REPLY from you

The author's comments:
My dad died when i was 10, and one of things i remember is when i went to the funeral and looked down at his body in a casket. I remember touching his face and praying to God that he would wake my dad up. I kept watching my dad's face and hoping that his eyes would open and that he'd give me one of his trademark crooked smiles, but of course it never happened. So this poem is for all of the teens out there suffering from heartache and loss.
