I should hear something
I drift toward the door
I know I should hear something
Movement, not silence
My hands touch rough wood
Not wanting to see, I look
She is laying there
The sheets are tangled
Broken glass is on the floor
Her hair is in knots
I stifle a scream
Horror in my beating heart
Knees bend to the floor
Eyes close, body falls
When I wake, she is still there
I had hoped she was a dream
