For Better or Worse

Sometimes I look back
To when things were hard
I accepted it
I gave up

What could I have done?
What I did for the third time
I couldn't let her hurt him
The worst kind of betrayal
Or so I thought
I think I commited that too many times before
He had to know
She had to end it

I was selfish
Swallowed in self-pity
Consumed in ambition
Fought for months
And then almost lost him
If it wasn't for me
He would be better off
Or never to return

Any of my friends would say that this is a lie. Only he believes me. He is not blind. I wish they were.
