A Sweet (or Minty) Victory

On your mark, get set, go!
The competitors are off!
They place a single piece of either mint or bubble gum in their mouth and head into class.

The competition gets interesting as the teacher begins a long lesson,
The five must hide their competition like a student hiding their failed test from their parents,

"Billy, what on earth do you have in your mouth?!?”

Busted.

Now, as homework is collected and the rapidly moving pencils take a break,
The four mouths move at the speed of light, trying to get rid of the taste before the others,
Yet, three students have braces, and the gum gets stuck as they veer off course, into a lake.

Tough luck.

Only two left, who will wind up victorious?
This is when everything heats up.

On and on, the teacher babbles,
Pencils tapping, note taking and doodling dabbles,
Chew and chew,
And then surprisingly, out of the blue,

Someone says a joke,
Students laugh until they choke,
SMACK!
And that electric, blue, minty gum lands on the teachers face.

Not Good! But at least someone had a sweet (or minty) victory...

The author's comments:
This was one of my many poems for a poetry project in my IRLA class. I don't know how people will react to it, so I'm only putting up one so far. I chose this one because my teacher read this one to the class. I'm kinda shy, so please don't comment negatively... I've never shared my work before, and I have only decided to share this because my teacher went nuts for it. If its bad, I'm sorry for wasting your time, and I know I type too much :D
