Flight of the Caged Bird

She awakes to the silence of the morning.
Sun breaking the veil of night.
She reaches out to the closed door
Cold, Metallic
Momentarily freezing her smoldering desire.
Overwhelmed by the vision
The impending life she could have
She is expected to have.
Safety, Stability
But terrifying the solace of forced retreat into buried dreams.
Time passes and reluctance gone.
She leaves, bursting through the door
Her broken wings reborn
Flying into the invisible horizon
Flying into the awaiting future
Each flap slowly colors
Her once faded eyes.
