Words to fill the silence
beating against the wall
layer by layer it thickens
until nothing is said at all.
Trying hard to climb over
when it heightens everyday
and when I see a glimpse of hope
someone else takes it away.
Despite all the desperate effort
it always goes unseen
but try and try as I might
you never get what I mean.
Chisel and chisel
hammer and rake
through at last I see
there's nothing left to take.
