Trapped in a dark room,
Seemingly more vast than infinity itself
No matter where I go
There is not a single way out.

Day and night blur together
No rustle of leaves or sound of whispers
The eerie silence a constant reminder
That I am truly alone.

A small glimmer of light flickers in the distance
My initial astonishment turning to unbridled deliriousness
Running toward the glow
Then sprinting with all my might
My heart pounding with hope
It’s tantalizingly close.
My feet carry me faster and faster.
Just a couple more steps
It’s nearly within my grasp.
My foot sharply twists on a small pebble
I plummet to the ground.
As I struggle to look up,
I see nothing but perpetual darkness.

A sudden sad moment inspired this poem. After reading this later, I was surprised at how depressing it was.
