I Blinked
Just six years old,
I was sitting on my porch,
With an ice cold cherry coke,
 I blinked.

 I woke up and I’m 25,
Caught up in the politics of,
 Election 2030,
 I blinked.

 3 years down the road,
My high school sweetheart is about to become my wife,
The preacher says, “You may kiss the bride.”
 I blinked.

6 years later my cars weaving in and my cars weaving out,
Running every red light in town,
One more push and a baby cries with tears of joy in her mammas eyes,
 I blinked.

Just 12 years later my baby cries,
“Daddy I miss him so much,”
 My little girl is hurt,
 But I blinked.

10 years later I squeeze her hand as if to say,
“Darling, it’s just still hard to give you away,”
But I let go, setting her straight on life,
 I blinked.

23 years fly by right to my hospital bed,
She cries, “Oh I’m not ready,”
I squeeze her hand and say,
 “Don’t blink,

Life goes faster than you think,
 So don’t blink.”
