Like A Father

You’ve always been,
Like a father too me.
That will never change,
For as long as can be.

No matter where or when,
I will think of you as if your own.
And no matter what’s gone through,
I know those feelings are not mine alone.

I’ve been here before,
And I didn’t want to be back here yet.
However these are the types of things,
I knew I would endure but not forget.

When I answered the phone,
It sounded as if nothing was wrong.
But when I heard those 5 simple words,
My day just became instantly long.

Walking into the house,
With our family at their knees.
My mind instantly went back,
To all of my memories.

I will never forget you,
You were like a father to me.
And that will never change,
For as long as can be.

After my dad had died, his best friend who was like a father to me died 5 months later. This is a poem I wrote for him and it was displayed at his funeral.
