Pillowed clouds billow
Across the pink and gold sky,
Littered with white-hot stars
Bursting through the evening
To breathe in fresh night,
To light the way for you, even
In the dark.

Stiff boots gnaw at your
Pinky toes while you walk,
Rushed, hushed, inconspicuous.
But I see you, and the stars see you
Running
And they light the way for you, even
In the dark.

Pumas pounding pavement,
Pushing harder, faster,
Moving with sly vigor, but
I see you, and the stars see you
Imagining
And they light the way for you, even
In the dark.

The guilt chokes you
Like a boa constrictor
Tightening and threatening
Your pockets are empty of even small change
I see you, and the stars see you
Starving
And they light the way for you, even
In the dark.

Incredulous, like a supernova
The sun is reborn from
The edge of the earth, and
Everything is made still.
Day is lit like a candle,
And the fire lights the way for you, even
If it burns.
