The Light in the Pit, the Love in the War

the great inferno left nothing
but depressing blackness
the abandoned burnt countryside
has not been visited for weeks
for it only brings back
that wretched memory
but now in the middle of that mess
there is a beautiful disturbance
breaking the deathly blackness
a single green stem
rooted in the ash
growing faster than ever
it could not have sprouted
if that horrid fire hadnt destroyed the rest
