Words - so innocent and powerless as they are, as standing in a dictionary, how potent for good and evil they become in the hands of one who knows how to combine them. ~Nathaniel Hawthorne

My Heart
Was a flower, afraid to bud,
For the frost-winds blew cold,
And it was too young to die.

My Heart
Had a melody spun with notes of love,
Longing for the harmony
That would complete the song.

My Heart
Met love, and everything changed.
The petals unfolded,
And the song grew louder.

My Heart
Bloomed without sunlight,
Sang its music without harmony,
And then, the frost came.

My Heart
Withered in the cold,
Lost sight of its song,
Found nothing but pain.

My Heart
Tucked its broken petals away.
It burned the music
And locked the song deep inside.

My Heart
Is a flower, afraid to bud,
For the frost-winds blow cold,
And it is too young to die.
