Like, five or something. ~ Me

Dear mother,
why did you leave?
I only came here with him.
I only kissed him.
I only love him.
Didn't you once say
to accept love in any way,
just keep you heart and arms open?
I only see no harm
in being with the guy I adore.
Why did you leave?
I thought you said
you'd keep your head
and love me despite what I've done or said.
I'm still here
the this rack of clothing,
head swirling with rage, love, and self-loathing.
Why did you leave?
Don't you love your only child?
Don't you love your son?

The author's comments:
This poem was written for a young couple who was having pizza in the mall's food court. The two boys were kissing and on of the boy's mother comes up and starts yelling at one of the boys. When she's done, she looked at them with a face of contempt and walked out of the mall. The mother's son ran out of the food court and into Hot Topic, hiding amongst the clothes racks and crying. His boyfriend followed shortly after, and tried to comfort him. I really wanted to get them smoothies, but I had no money at the time. Instead, I went and hugged them both and listened. This is for those boys and for anyone who's parents/family has rejected them for any reason. Keep your head up and remember that I love you, and there's bound to be more than just me. Just carry on ?
