If a pen was without ink,
Would it still write?
If a human was without heart,
Would it still live?

But it is not the ink,
That writes,
But the heart of a soul,
That makes a mark.

And not the beating,
Of our hearts,
But the ink of our souls,
That brings us to life.

The author's comments:
This poem is a reflection on who we are and what we are made of. When we write, letting the ink write words does not mean anything unless the words are being written by the hears. Similarly, just because we have a beating heart does not make us a human- it is the "ink of our souls" or what we are made of that makes us who we are.
