Our Waltz

I take a step forward
You take a step back
And we Waltz together
Each step, perfectly in time

But our eyes never meet
And each step is a cautious move;
We’re challenging each other
Subtle but Steady

Autumn turns to winter
Rain to snow; out thoughts forming and icicle,
A flicker of your eyes on mine
Penetrating; burning through me, all in a moment’s gaze

But our dance continues,
Our footsteps and feelings growing distant
Our chess game; tense and competitive
But how did we get to this?

It used to be simple,
We’d float effortlessly across the world
But the night’s coming to an end
And one wrong move can put out our dying flame

The clock begins chiming: midnight
I try reaching for you but you’re gone
My heart plummets, though I’ve known for a while
That the waltz of our time is coming to an end...

It's sad when you start drifting away from a great friend but they aren't who they used to be, which is what inspired me to write this.
