Fight or Flight
We are the baby birds sitting in the nest.
Having been trained all our lives for this very moment
Coddled since our youth, it is now time
to be nudged out of the nest and learn to fly.
Some of us will flap our wings and glide away with ease
Others will struggle and have a different fate.
Our parents must let us take the fall alone,
For if they don’t, we will never survive.
The nest has grown too small to hold us
we must take the leap of faith and showcase our wings
It is the time for separation
It is the time for self-reliance
We cannot know what our future’s hold
Flap hastily and hope it’s enough
So what will it be, Fight or Flight
We don’t know now, we must wait and see
