Fear of Being Alone

I’m stuck in an unwanted life
like a puppy in a pound,
waiting for a day to be free.
Always pondering my escape
with no hole to sneak out and
no hope to get me through.
I always feel alone in my colorless life.
There are numerous people all around
but some days the world seems to be
just shadows.
I get the slightest glimpse of someone and
try to talk but
they don’t hear me.
I reach out to grab their hand but
they fade into the fog.
My sunniest day becomes an uneasy storm.
A storm created by fear.
Fear of being alone.
