The Difference of a Smile

I was sitting on the park bench one day
Clutching a daisy tight in the palm of my hand
The petals felt as smooth as the finest silk
Slowly, carefully I began to pluck off each one of them
Feeling as down as ever
Everyone around seemed to enjoy the day
As tears flowed down my face and showered down
My daisy had lost half its petals by then
But that didn’t matter to me
A little girl walked up and took a seat next to me
She wiped my tears away and took hold of my daisy
Then, all she did, was give me a simple smile
And that smile lifted all the darkness in my world away
We both stood and started walking
And I was no longer sad, instead filled with glee
Because, simply on that day
When nothing seemed to go right
Someone smiled at me
And that smile made all the difference
