West Virginia Surfing

November 17, 2010
Floating down current
we decide to be brave
and try our hand
at west Virginia surfing

We enter the waves
anticipating the fun to come
It wasn’t long before
the fun began to fade

Trapped by the currents
with no way to evade
the constant pummeling
force on my chest

Friends engulfed
by the cold river water
our strength all but lost
with our paddles down current

We yell in frustration
cursing our guide
For the relentless
torment he calls fun

Fellow rivermen pull
to no avail,
hope begins to fade,
our spirits soaked and gray

For ten minutes of surfing
we went through hell!
