Sounds Grateful

Through wrapping and a ribbon
I revealed a new alarm clock
Many muggy Christmases ago

From beginning till the present day
Its purpose has remained constant
Simply buzz and flash me the time

Yet, the significance is limitless
Out-of-date box gets credit
Credit for my attendance

Or credit for a morning grade
Credit for waking me on Christmas morning
Its credit is limitless

Its burned out numbers
And fuzzy old buzz
Shows commitment and reliability

It’s now feeling grateful
Grateful for the life it’s lead
And grateful for the life it has helped lead

I hope people see the humor and importance of alarm clocks.
