I've been the girl
I’ve been the nice girl, the sweet girl, the ditzy girl with mermaid curls
I’ve been the trouble maker, the talk backer, drug addicted loner
I’m that girl that acts cute, says she doesn’t even know
I’m that girl that acts cool, says she doesn’t even care
I’m the girl who laughs at the expense of herself
Who cries at night and never lets anyone know
I’m the girl who’s been the distance, way past home base
Who’s never said I love you, I’m scared, or don’t go
I’ve been the nice girl, the sweet girl, the ditzy girl with mermaid curls
I’ve been the trouble maker, the talk backer, drug addicted loner
I pretended to believe in happiness, to push away the hopelessness
I pretended to be addicted, to finally depend on something
I was the girl who smiled when she really wanted to scream
The girl who locked away her soul, and left only a empty shell
I’ve been the nice girl, the sweet girl, the ditzy girl with mermaid curls
I’ve been the trouble maker, the talk backer, drug addicted loner
But I’ve never been the real girl who lurks deep inside me
Suppressed by facades of personas but with a heart still beating
This girl is who I will one day be
