This Well Worn Path

This well worn path, the dirt on my feet
The candle-lit dawn, the faces in the street
There’s a question to be learned, and an answer in reply
But all I get is a sneer, and all I know is a lie.

The stars in the dome, of this black heaven sky
The devilish snow and tears he’s yet to cry
In this rain there is hope for a people who’ve lost
All that they know in this most deceptive frost.

I watch the lightning from rooftops above
And hope beyond hope that it’ll strike me with love
For a better hope and the best of tomorrow
‘Cause I’m tired of all this hate and this f***ing sorrow.

With you there is light where I’m blinded by dark
I color in red where I’ve only known a black heart
With you there is no pain in a world full of knives
I hope we get used to smiling for the rest of our lives.
