My friends always told me,
Lose some weight and you’ll be gorgeous,
Curl your hair and you’ll look like a model,
Wear this dress and you’ll look pretty,
No one told me I was beautiful for my personality or my smile,
So I listened to them,
I lost weight,
Did my hair,
And wore what they told me too,
For them,
And then the next year they were gone,
Leaving an empty shell of what I used to be,
They twisted me into their liking,
Treating me like a doll,
And when they were left,
I lost myself,
Thinking if I kept changing myself then I would find new friends,
And I discovered,
That if you change yourself you will find friends,
But are they true and genuine and will catch you when you fall,
Or will they be backstabbing and controlling and make you cry at night,
I revealed to myself that changing myself would only hurt me not anyone else,
So I’m done,
I’m going to be new me,
Not an “improved” replica or a contoured image of myself,
I’m going to be me,
Flaws and all.
