My Shadow
There’s’ a part within me that wants to get out
It’s aching to play out and about
Asks me, begs me to please set him free
Until I will he won’t let me be
But I can’t in my right mind let him go
‘Cause if I will, things will happen, I know
He’ll start lying for me, and waste all my time
And expect me to be his partner in crime
He’ll make me indifferent, I’ll stop to care
I’ll be mean to friends and I’ll never share
And yet he’s asking me, begging me> I don’t know what to do
Can it hurt if its’ just a minute or two?
This struggle goes on, day after day
‘Till I finally decided on a different way
I set up a plan, this time id be tricking him
Once I let him go all proper and prim
I put something on his shoes, a secret surprise
Made them sticky and attached him; ignored all his cries
He is now and forever stuck to the end of my feet
He’s my ghost, my shadow, he’s finally -
Beat.
