Dancing Shadows

The shadows danced as she watched
weaving, interwining, into indiscernible shapes and patterns
fluid as water yet invisible as air.
They leapt and scurried across the wall,
the ground.
They shrank and grew unpredictably
big enough to engulf her
small enough to seem as if they had disappeared.
The inky blackness of the night swallowed them whole,
waiting for the light of dawn to come again.
