darkness falls
upon a star-studded sky
I slip out
onto the beach
sighing in content as
my bare feet
linger on the cool white sand
the waves crash
in sync with my heartbeat
over and over again
I sit
facing the sea
listening to the waves break
over and over again
then
I part my lips
singing softly
just one line of
a sweet lullaby
and I pause and wait
for the water’s raging reply
before I open my mouth
once more
and
for the rest of the evening
we go back and forth
exchanging stories
sharing laughs
creating memories
the sea and me.
