The Journey
The door swings shut behind me and I walk into the building
The long hallway stretches out before me, lined with lockers of sea green.
 I begin my journey
Walking off the plank of my teenage years
Grasping adulthood with a determined mind
 Slipping slightly, but keeping composure
 My journey continues
Past the peers, the gazes of the judges
Their eyes burning into my head
 Searching, prying, finding faults
 With their greedy eyes
I turn my gaze down, and watch the smooth, precise patterns
Of the floor tiles, so straight, so smooth, so perfect
 So unlike me
 My journey slows
How I wish to be perfect
 A lean, beautiful body
Flowing dark hair, curled to a touch
How I want to be worthy of you
 My journey pauses
 You. So amazing, so handsome
A beautiful man, deserving of a beautiful woman
 Not a girl
 My grasp slips
One hand shakes as it struggles to keep its hold
Its hold on me, not the old me
 The new me
Perhaps more slippery than ever before
 My journey picks up
Into a room, so barren, so bland
 Desks lined, forming a pattern
Unknown to anyone but the creator
A pattern where each move, each decision
 Makes you who you are
 Who you will be
 Popular, smart, left out, new
The game that can not be won
 But played over and over
For the fun of seeing the worst defeated
 My journey gets harder
 I search through the rows
Over and over, searching for me
Of something that I can be
I’m lost in the sea of the decisions I can not make.
But then, there is you. You who is perfect, so graceful
So who I want to be
The seat I take throws me into the waters
Waters where there are sharks, and jellyfish
But also mermaids and beautiful things
Which will I be, beautiful or ugly?
 Where will you take me?
 Where will I go?
 Wherever is fine with me
As long as I’m with you
 My journey ends
  For now
 But I feel at peace
 Sitting here next to you
