Buried Worries
black as night
is this prolonged fight
laboring under unlit skies
working hard to make this right
man and beast upon earthen soil
endlessly working at this toil
problems forgotten in our greed
will come bubbling forth at a boil
why forget, why forsake
these endless problems that we make
the more we procrastinate
the longer fixing this will take
we just sit and dig a deeper hole
searching for riches, oil, and coal
we forget we're digging our grave
each shovelfull will take a toll
we think we've conqured all with might
but it's waiting, hidden, ready to bite
watching as our flaws bring ruin
to all our future plans and sight
