Accidents Happen MAG
As the old you become dismal and begin to fade,
The new you dominate and start to invade.
From the ginger-ale & ice cream parties not too long ago
To the forgotten memories and the never-ending lows
From walks to the park and adventures galore
To the incessant questionings and everything more
I wonder why it's to you that this disease was bestowed,
I'll never know for sure; how much longer is this road?
They all claim “it's gonna be okay” millions of times,
But it's only arrogance that consumes their hearts & minds.
The inevitability of losing you eats me alive inside,
As the time passes us by, it's the hurt I try to hide.
Only hope can make the burden seem lighter
I have to seem strong, I gotta be a fighter.
It's hard seeing someone who helped you to grow
Slowly slip away into someone you barely know.
You taught me that one plus one is two,
But I've yet to learn how I'll live without you.
From being a father to a grandfather, soldier, teacher & hero
The impact you've made on me is one I don't know how to show.
Longer hours and harder times, “it's almost your day.”
I'll soothe my tears with an all-too famous cliché
Good-byes are never easy and I don't know what I'll do
When the day finally comes that I have to say it to you
“You know, sooner or later everyone's gotta go,”
They say accidents happen, but what do they know?
