The Light
I had endured it for as long as I could take
but enough was enough.
The faux, the fake, the imitation;
it was too much.
I was resolved to move forward,
resolved to leave it all behind.
As I walked away I could still feel the fire,
Enraged flames licking the edges of my soul.
The wool’s removal brought forth realization
and now I could see him for
the monster he truly was.
I allowed him one last glance of pure disdain,
got one more view, this time down my nose,
then left.
“Forever and always.”
Just like he’d said.
This time on my terms.
