My memory is harsh.
War gave me this scar.
“TAKE COVER” bullets force up dust.
The empty struggle against the Japs.
Then… It is silent.
We are frozen to our spots in the trenches.
Then cries of joy ring out.
For we have had the sweet taste of golden victory in that harsh, empty landscape.
