Breathe in the color
Of the sun
As we lie side by side,
Our corner of the world.
Feel the sound of its surreal glow
Placing us here
Where we exist as voices and thoughts.
Insightful silence.
I close my eyes--
Shield them from the sun.
And see our words
Floating aimlessly,
Butterflies in the April breeze.

Slick grass tickles my skin,
Whispers, "This is not a dream"
As it dances in the wind.
Lone tree stands leaning,
Rooted on vibrant hillside,
Beautifully askew.
Friendship fills the gap between us--
Secrets shared,
Dreams planned,
Fears confessed.
My confidant.
