untitled
In the hallway. The students.
Pass by in a blur, while
Talking. Their conversations
Float and racist slurs
Sting my ears. Their hateful words
Cloud my mind. The lockers slam loudly
But do not cover the pain they cause.
Their book bags fall to the floor
With an angry thud. They do not hide the
Nastiness of their sounds.
Why can’t people just look past color?
Why can’t people blend together like
A fruit smoothie?
Words of kindness and tolerance are much
Easier to swallow.
