Hi
A two letter word.
It doesn’t seem like much
Yet, it can mean the world.
It can be a greeting
But sometimes,
It can seem like a goodbye.
Never take advantage of it.
Use it as a greeting
Say it to family,
Say it to friends,
Say it to peers,
Even to strangers.
It is just a friendly gesture.
Nothing more than that.
Say it now so it never becomes regret.
It could change someone’s life
Or it could save another’s.
Cherish these “hi”‘s
And spread them around
Keep them close to your heart.
Because it might be the last words you’ll ever say to someone
And it could mean the world.
Hi
A two letter word
That I will never again regret.

The author's comments:
I was inspired to write this when a fellow student was passed me in the hall one day and said hi. I had heard of him but never talked to him. I smiled and walked away. That same day he was killed in a car accident. I never said the simplest word in the world, "Hi" and I regret it every day.
