White planes that
stretch across a
slim divide.
Pearly bone cracks, shatters,
flakes away into fluted spires.
The skull yawns from Charon’s
cold embrace,
hollow eyes gaping in the

blank repose of

death.

This piece is an ekphrastic poem based on Georgia O'Keeffe's painting "Cow's Skull - Red, White and Blue".
