One Hack With a Shrill Blade
One hack with a shrill blade,
The old pine’s trip comes to an abrupt halt.
It shrieks and cries,
Throughout the ever enduring
Flight to the cold, hard earth.
A glimpse in the future,
50 years to-date.
It’s now portraying duty,
Essentially the roots of the barn;
Unyielding and ever dependable.
It was the tree’s acquaintances
That were puzzled together
To construct the architecture.
Their entire well being
Rests upon its decaying shoulders.
