Her white and brown coat waves in the wind
Her ears flop
Up
Down
She runs out the driveway
She’ll come back
She always comes back
Two days pass
Doubt, worry, anxiety
“Snowball!” we wail at the top of our lungs
She’ll come back, she always has
Two more days pass
Fear, depression, hopelessness
But
She’ll be back
She’ll be back

This poem is about our dog Snowball who ran away last year.

The last time we saw her was when she ran down the driveway...
